The catalyst to strength - The Strength lies in Protein

Hey amazing you! As active women in our 40s and beyond (and in my books if you exercise on purpose you are an athlete), our bodies have different needs. A few weeks ago I shared this with my newsletter crew and through you’d like this too!

Sharing is caring. Rising the tide lifts up all ships. Forward this to someone you think might resonate with what we are all shouting about. Big hugs. Read on.

I thought you might like this.

It's no secret that women come to me every day asking me a semblance of the same questions. To be truthful, this is part of where the whole tugging on threads of curiosity led to some major unravelling.

Body composition is often among them.

What is happeneing to me? Why is my body changing shape? Where is this fat cloak/meno belly/ pudge coming from ?!?!?! (listen I've heard it all and I'm not a fan of the words, but it is what I hear so bear with me).

Followed switftly by:

I haven't changed much of what I am doing! In fact, I am exercising more and eating less - what the heck?!

One of the reasons for the change in body shape is a decrease in estrogen overall and in perimenopause our hormones are actually fluctuating unlike their normal cycling times even just a few years before affecting our lean muscle mass and fat storage.

Increasing our consumtpion (eating) more lean protein is really important and helps to preseve what we have.

Here is an interesting study that shows just that.

The effect of 12 weeks of euenergetic high-protein diet in regulating appetite and body composition of women with normal-weight obesity: a randomised controlled trial - PubMed

Here are the cole's notes:

In this study 50 women were put into two different groups. One group (25) were put into either a high protein (25% of the energie requirements) or a standard protein group (15% of the energy requirements). At the end of 12 weeks, while there was no weight loss noted, there was body composition changes noted whereby lean body mass increased and fat decreased. Even without exericse!

If there is one thing I want to underline here is the importance of lean muscle mass and its ability to help us on so many levels.

A seed to plant...imagine now what can happen when we add resisted training to this!

Huh! Well isn't thaaaat interesting!

Stop playing small friend. Go get some protein.

xoxo
